چکیده

The critical issue of vibration test on hull structures with large size is the numerous amounts of sensors. Too many sensors lead to excessive consumption whereas notable error would come from reducing the number of sensors. An approach is proposed to reconstruct the complete structural vibration via much fewer sensors. This iterative progress eliminates the sensor location that contributes the most signif icantly to the condition number of modal matrix in each cycle. Along with the iteration, the condition number goes down quickly to a certain level, but rises suddenly after lots of calculating cycles. The optimal number of sensors is the one before the condition number zooming. The corresponding sensor locations are also optimal. An experiment on cylindrical shell demonstrates that vibration responses reconstructed from the data of 26 optimal sensors are consistent with the responses measured by 200 initial sensors. The vibration error is only 2.4 dB. This approach may be applied to vibration test and measurement on large structures.

OPTIMAL SENSOR PLACEMENT FOR DAMAGE DETECTION BASED ON A NEW GEOMETRICAL VIEWPOINT

In this study, efficient methods for optimal sensor placement (OSP) based on a new geometrical viewpoint for damage detection in structures is presented. The purpose is to minimize the effects of noise on the damage detection process. In the geometrical viewpoint, a sensor location is equivalent to projecting the elliptical noise on to a face of response space which is corresponding to the sens...

Simulation-based Vibration Sensor Placement for Centrifugal Pump Impeller Fault Detection

In this paper, a simulation-based method is proposed for optimal placement of vibration sensors for the purpose of fault detection in a centrifugal pump. The centrifugal pump is modeled to investigate the effect of vane tip fault on fluid flow patterns numerically. Pressure pulsations are investigated at different locations at the inner surface of the pump before and after the presence of the f...

OPTIMAL SENSOR PLACEMENT FOR MODAL IDENTIFICATION OF A STRAP-BRACED COLD FORMED STEEL FRAME BASED ON IMPROVED GENETIC ALGORITHM

This paper is concerned with the determination of optimal sensor locations for structural modal identification in a strap-braced cold formed steel frame based on an improved genetic algorithm (IGA). Six different optimal sensor placement performance indices have been taken as the fitness functions two based on modal assurance criterion (MAC), two based on maximization of the determinant of a Fi...
